We are pleased to announce the call for papers/participations for the workshop and symposium, both titled “Expanding Agency: Women and Other Marginalized Actors of Modern Architecture in Turkey,” to be held between 23 and 24 October 2026 at METU Faculty of Architecture. The Graduate Program in Architectural History is organizing these events in connection with University College Dublin’s exhibition “Expanding Agency: Women, Race, and the Dissemination of Modern Architecture” that will be opened at Middle East Technical University on 23 October 2026.
The workshop and symposium aim to rethink modern architecture in Turkey by moving beyond the male-dominated, state-centered canonical narratives, focusing instead on uncovering the overlooked contributions of women, non-Muslim/ethnic minority communities, queer actors, workers, and other marginalized figures.
